KWARA STATE, Nigeria: The founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Adeyemo, and the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force rescued a kidnapped woman and her son in Kwara State on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Okay News reports that Adeyemo, a Nigerian activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued a statement confirming his team secured the freedom of Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and Abdulmalik after an exchange of gunfire with their abductors.
The victims were initially abducted in Igbope, located in the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State. The rescue operation lasted three days and involved tracking the suspects to Bode Sadu before Jebba. The kidnappers were lured with a ransom payment before security forces engaged them.
“Myself and my team members, with ASP Amos Ajegoke, including policemen, have been in the forest for days tracking the movement of the hoodlums to ascertain their location. But on July 2, we discovered that they were at Bode Sadu before Jebba. We moved there and remained there till Friday night,” Adeyemo said.
The ambush occurred at approximately 12:00 a.m. WAT. “Around 12:00 a.m. (on Saturday), they came to collect the ransom as we had agreed. But we attacked them in the forest and there was an exchange of gunshots. We subsequently gave them a hot chase and combed the forest. They fled. Later, we found out that they had abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik,” he said.
“We heard their voices shouting for help and were able to locate where the voices were coming from and rescued them. They are currently in Igboho General Hospital receiving medical attention,” Adeyemo said.
The statement credited the success of the rescue to the coordination of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, who communicated with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states during the search.
