United States President Donald Trump has addressed public discussions regarding his physical wellbeing, revealing that he maintains a daily high-dose aspirin regimen and dismissing concerns over his age.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal on Friday, January 2, 2026, the 79-year-old president disclosed that he takes 325mg of aspirin per day—far exceeding the 81mg low-dose therapy typically recommended by medical professionals for cardiovascular health in older adults. Trump noted that he has followed this routine for 25 years to prevent “thick blood,” despite acknowledging that the habit causes him to bruise easily.

Okay News reports that the President also clarified a previous statement regarding a recent medical checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. While he had initially informed reporters that he underwent a detailed MRI scan, he admitted in the interview that the procedure was actually a CT scan. Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, the President’s physician, confirmed that the scan was performed to rule out cardiovascular issues and that the results showed no abnormalities, describing the president as being in “exceptional health” and perfectly suited for his duties.

The interview also highlighted Trump’s resistance to certain medical advice, such as his refusal to wear compression socks for chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition that causes leg swelling in older individuals. Instead of traditional exercise like treadmills, which he described as “boring,” the President stated he prefers golfing and standing more frequently at his desk to manage his symptoms.

Addressing viral images that appeared to show him sleeping during White House events, Trump explained that he occasionally closes his eyes for relaxation or is simply caught by cameras mid-blink. To maintain a polished appearance, he revealed he uses makeup to hide bruising on his hands caused by the blood-thinning effects of his medication.

As the oldest president to be inaugurated in U.S. history, Trump remains firm that his age does not hinder his duties. He expressed irritation at the persistent focus on his health, reiterating that he does not suffer from hearing loss or fatigue.

The disclosures come at a time of increased scrutiny following the withdrawal of his predecessor, Joe Biden, from the 2024 race due to similar age-related concerns, though Trump insists his own physical condition remains “perfect.”
