The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega has denied reports that he is under pressure to resign.

Jega made the clarification on Monday, March 16, during a town hall meeting in Abuja.

The INEC Chairman also stated that calls for his resignation would not hinder the conduct of free and fair elections.

“I have heard of the several calls for me to be removed. In fact, am aware that some groups have been protesting,” Jega said.

“Well, I have a job to do and I will do it. Nobody has asked me to resign and all of us at INEC are focused on ensuring that this election is free and fair,” he added.

Rampant reports have it that Jega would be forced to proceed on terminal leave to make way for another Chairman who would be chosen by the Presidency.

President Goodluck Jonathan has however denied the reports saying that there’s no plan to remove Jega.
