Bassey Otu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the winner of the governorship election held on March 18 in Cross River State, in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Otu as the winner of the election after he secured 258,619 votes, defeating his closest rival and incumbent Senator, Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 179,636 votes.

The Returning Officer, Prof Teddy Charles of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, announced Otu’s victory in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

According to Prof Charles, Otu won in 15 out of the 18 local government areas declared by the Commission.
