ADO-EKITI, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission declared All Progressives Congress candidate Governor Biodun Oyebanji the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the results at the headquarters of the commission in Ado-Ekiti at approximately 3:00 am WAT.
Okay News reports that Biodun Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes across the 16 local government areas of the state to win re-election.
Adenike Oladiji said, “Therefore, I, Adenike, am the returning officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election…Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected.” The runner-up, Peoples Democratic Party candidate Olumayokun Oluyede, received 40,533 votes, while African Democratic Congress candidate Dare Bejide obtained 12,872 votes.
Official commission data showed there were 988,251 registered voters and 384,940 accredited voters for the election. Out of the 382,109 total votes cast, the number of valid votes recorded across the state was 375,777.
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate lost in his home local government area of Ikere.
