Abuja, NIGERIA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a formal rebuttal against allegations that it copied a recent press statement from a presidential aide, describing such reports as “fake, misleading, and a misrepresentation of facts.”

Okay News gathered that the Commission’s response on Sunday, April 12, 2026, was specifically directed at a publication by Peoples Gazette titled “Nigerians react as INEC reposts Tinubu aide’s message.” The electoral umpire clarified that its official communications are generated internally and not sourced from any third party.

According to the statement, any circulation of the press release outside of INEC’s official channels was performed independently by those parties and was not coordinated by the Commission. INEC explained that its decision to repost the statement on social media was a standard procedure intended to “amplify accurate information” and should not be seen as an alignment with any individual or political office holder.

“The Commission remains strictly non-partisan and urges the public to disregard misleading interpretations of its actions,” the statement concluded. This clarification comes amidst heightened sensitivity and public scrutiny regarding the Commission’s neutrality as the nation moves closer to the 2027 General Elections.
