Signs point to a potential mass defection of prominent Labour Party members in Enugu State, fueled by significant internal disputes within the party. An exclusive investigation has revealed that these internal conflicts are creating opportunities for members to switch allegiances.

Specifically, there are indications that supporters of Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, are considering joining the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This speculation is supported by Edeoga’s recent return to the PDP, marked by an event at the party’s secretariat in GRA, Enugu, where he expressed gratitude to Governor Mbah and PDP leadership for facilitating his return. He also pledged his commitment to supporting Governor Mbah’s initiatives in the state.

This development follows the defection of six Labour Party members of the Enugu State House of Assembly to the PDP. These lawmakers, including Ejike Eze, Johnson Ugwu, Princess Ugwu, Pius Ezeugwu, Amuka Williams, and Osita Eze, have already made the switch. Harrison Ogara, the Enugu State House of Assembly spokesman, who was also elected on the Labour Party platform, acknowledged the lawmakers’ freedom of movement in response to their defection.
