Beijing, CHINA – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday reaffirmed China’s support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy. Holding talks with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Wang praised Iran’s commitment to avoiding nuclear weapons while calling for an immediate end to regional hostilities.
The meeting occurred as President Trump announced a pause in the US military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, citing “great progress” in peace talks. Minister Araghchi suggested that the reopening of the strategic waterway—vital for global oil transit—could be addressed “promptly” as diplomatic solutions take precedence over military action.
Okay News reports that both nations are looking to deepen their “comprehensive strategic partnership” as they approach the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
Minister Wang urged Middle Eastern countries to take the region’s future into their own hands by building a security framework based on shared participation rather than foreign intervention.
