The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been cleared of allegations of financial impropriety by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance. The exoneration comes after a thorough review of JAMB’s financial records, following initial concerns raised during the board’s 2025 budget defense session.

JAMB recently faced intense scrutiny from the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance over allegations of financial impropriety. During the board’s 2025 budget defense session, lawmakers expressed concerns over significant expenditures, including a staggering N1.1 billion allocated for meals and an additional N850 million earmarked for fumigation.

These figures were deemed excessive, prompting calls for a detailed examination of JAMB’s financial records.

Facing mounting pressure from the committee, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, was instructed to provide comprehensive documentation of the board’s budgetary appropriations and expenditures for both 2024 and 2025.

This directive aimed to provide a clearer picture of JAMB’s financial activities and address the concerns raised by lawmakers.

Committee Finds No Evidence of Mismanagement, Commends JAMB’s Leadership

Following a thorough review of the documentation submitted by JAMB, the committee issued a statement titled “Clarification on the JAMB Report on Revenue,” unequivocally clearing the board of any financial misconduct.

“For the purpose of clarity,” stated Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the committee, “the comprehensive report provided by JAMB indicates that the line items mentioned during Monday’s hearing on revenue do not suggest any mismanagement or misuse of the Board’s funds.”

The committee went further, commending Professor Oloyede for his exemplary leadership and financial stewardship.

“The Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, deserves commendation for demonstrating financial discipline and accountability in managing the Board’s resources effectively,” Senator Musa declared.

“This level of stewardship serves as a model for public institutions across the nation.”

JAMB’s Reputation for Transparency and Efficiency Reinforced

This exoneration by the National Assembly committee serves to reinforce JAMB’s well-established reputation for transparency and efficient resource management under the leadership of Professor Oloyede. JAMB has consistently been lauded for its financial reforms and its significant contributions to the Federation Account.

This outcome further solidifies its position as a benchmark for other government agencies in terms of financial accountability and responsible resource utilization
