The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the commencement of the 2025 Direct Entry (DE) application process, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. This announcement, released by JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, follows the conclusion of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application period, which closed on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
“Prospective candidates for the 2025 Direct Entry program can initiate their application submissions starting Wednesday, March 12, 2025,” JAMB confirmed.
The 2025 UTME saw a registration total of 2,030,627 candidates, with 200,115 participating in the Mock-UTME and 630 in the trial mock examination.
The DE application is specifically tailored for individuals who have acquired advanced academic qualifications beyond secondary education and seek direct entry into the second year of a university program, bypassing the traditional UTME. JAMB has emphasized rigorous oversight of the registration process to ensure adherence to all stipulated requirements. All applications must be submitted through authorized JAMB Professional Registration Centres (PRCs), and any falsification of academic credentials will result in severe penalties.
The board has also established a dedicated committee to meticulously verify all submitted Advanced Level qualifications, warning that fraudulent results will lead to prosecution.
Furthermore, higher institutions have been instructed to conduct thorough verification of candidates’ certificates before granting admission.
Established in 1978, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) serves as Nigeria’s primary examination body responsible for conducting entrance examinations for tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. JAMB administers the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for students seeking admission into higher education and manages the Direct Entry (DE) process for candidates with advanced qualifications such as diplomas, National Certificates of Education (NCE), university degrees, or A-level certificates.
The board also regulates admission policies, ensures compliance with national education standards, and implements measures to prevent fraud in the admission process, including certificate verification.
JAMB utilizes Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for its examinations, replacing traditional paper-based methods. CBT enhances security, efficiency, and standardization, reducing malpractice and expediting result delivery. The National Identification Number (NIN) remains a mandatory requirement for UTME registration, with strict data verification protocols.
