Jamilu Gwamna Emerges APC Guber Candidate as Governor Yahaya Snubs Pantami

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Gombe, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has picked Dr. Jamilu Ishiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for 2027 General Elections. The decision was ratified during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday, May 3, 2026, presided over by the party leader and Executive Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Okay News understands that, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, lost out in the race as stakeholders threw their weight behind Gwamna. The meeting, which aimed to minimize internal friction and project a united front, also saw Governor Inuwa Yahaya emerge as the consensus candidate for the Gombe North Senatorial district.  The session was attended by prominent party figures, including the Deputy National Financial Secretary and North East zonal officials.

Beyond the governorship, the APC successfully ratified candidates for all major legislative seats in the state. For the Senate, DCP Mohammed Ahmadu Deba was adopted for Gombe Central, while Hon. Jerry Damara takes the ticket for Gombe South. The House of Representatives slate includes several seasoned politicians such as Hon. Usman Bello Kumo (Akko) and Hon. Fatima Binta Bello (Kaltungo/Shongom), alongside Hon. Inuwa Garba and Hon. Ali Isa JC.

The “Gombe Model” of consensus, spearheaded by Governor Yahaya, is being viewed as a strategic attempt to avoid the “stubborn” legal disputes and factionalism currently plaguing the PDP and ADC at the national level.
