Ikeja, Lagos State, NIGERIA — Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race. In a formal address delivered on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement announced that he is stepping aside to prioritize “party cohesion and unity” following the high-level endorsement of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate.
The withdrawal comes just days after Jandor had taken the decisive step of procuring his ₦50 million (approx. $36,765) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
Okay News reports that the move is a direct response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s public endorsement of Hamzat, a decision Jandor described as “central to the stability and progress” of the party. By aligning with the President’s direction, Jandor has effectively neutralized what was expected to be a major internal challenge to the GAC-backed succession plan. [attachment_0](attachment)
In his address, Jandor was categorical that his decision was not a sign of weakness but a strategic alignment with “party supremacy.” He urged members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement—a group that had previously championed equity and inclusion outside the traditional party hierarchy—to remain calm and consolidate their support behind the chosen direction.
“This movement has never been about one individual; it has always been about a cause,” Jandor stated, reaffirming his “unalloyed loyalty” to President Tinubu. While the Lagos4Lagos leader remains a committed member of the APC, his withdrawal paves the path for Dr. Obafemi Hamzat to become the unopposed successor.
