Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has made a direct appeal to economic migrants from the state residing in Abuja, urging them to return home and capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities within Jigawa’s agricultural sector. Speaking during a visit by a group of these migrants to his Abuja residence, Governor Namadi highlighted the significant advancements and job creation within Jigawa’s agriculture.
Referencing the state’s historically high unemployment rate, which stood at 23.1% in 2023 according to the National Bureau of Statistics, Governor Namadi emphasized that his administration’s new agricultural policies, focused on mechanization and irrigation, have transformed the sector. He assured the migrants that ample job opportunities now exist in Jigawa, negating the need to seek employment elsewhere and potentially doubling their earnings compared to Abuja.
Governor Namadi commended the migrants for their discipline and for upholding Jigawa’s reputation in Abuja. He encouraged them to consider starting a new chapter in the state’s development, emphasizing Jigawa’s potential for significant growth as a hub for agro-industrial activities, producing crops like sesame seeds, rice, and wheat. The visiting migrants expressed gratitude for the governor’s initiatives and indicated their eagerness to return and contribute to Jigawa’s progress, having already received information about programs like summer farming and school security.
