John Enoh: Meet the New Minister of Sports Developement

Born in 1966 into the esteemed family of Pa Owan Enoh, John Owan Enoh is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and education. With a dynamic background and a commitment to serving his constituents, Enoh has made a significant impact as a politician and educator.

Educational Pursuits and Accomplishments

Enoh’s journey in education began at the University of Calabar, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. Graduating in 1988 with an impressive 2nd Class Honours “Upper Division,” he emerged as an outstanding student. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Calabar Graduate School, obtaining a master’s degree in Demography. He further augmented his skills by earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).

Enoh’s dedication to education didn’t stop there. He spent seven years as a lecturer at the University of Calabar, from 1991 to 1997, contributing to the growth and development of young minds.

Political Path and Notable Roles

Enoh’s venture into politics commenced in the Cross River State House of Assembly, where he served from 1997 to 2003. During this time, he held the positions of Minority Leader and Chairman of the Committee of Information.

Building on his political foundation, Enoh entered the National Assembly, representing the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency for an impressive 12-year period from 2003 to 2015. Throughout this tenure, he took on significant roles including Chairman of the Committee of Finance and Chairman of the Committee of Budget and Appropriation.

Diverse Learning and International Exposure

Enoh’s pursuit of excellence transcended national borders. He embarked on educational journeys abroad, gaining specialized knowledge and expertise in various fields. Noteworthy courses include Public Financial Management at Harvard Kennedy School, Telecoms Regulatory Master Class in Bath, UK, and Influence and Negotiation at Stanford Graduate School of Business, among others.

Acknowledgements and Achievements

John Owan Enoh’s contributions have garnered recognition. He received the distinguished 1988 Best Graduating Student Award and was listed as one of Nigeria’s 50 most Outstanding Legislative Icons (1999-2010) in a definitive publication by Parlia Consult, a Consortium of Legislative Historians.
