Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, a British professional boxer and Olympic gold medalist from the United Kingdom, delivered a commanding performance to stop American social media personality turned professional boxer Jake Paul with a sixth round knockout in a heavyweight bout held in Miami, Florida, United States of America.

The contest, which attracted global attention due to Paul’s crossover fame and Joshua’s elite boxing pedigree, saw the British fighter gradually impose his experience and physical strength. Although Paul managed to extend the fight beyond the early rounds, observers noted that the difference in skill level and ring awareness became clearer as the bout progressed.

Okay News reports that Joshua first asserted full control in a dramatic fifth round, where he knocked Paul down twice during a frantic exchange that left the American visibly shaken. The knockdowns shifted the momentum decisively and set the tone for the closing moments of the fight.

In the sixth round, Joshua pressed forward with a sustained combination of heavy punches, forcing the referee to intervene after Paul was unable to defend himself effectively. The stoppage confirmed Joshua’s dominance and ended the contest without controversy.
Speaking shortly after the fight, Joshua used the moment to address his long standing rivalry with Tyson Fury, the British heavyweight boxing champion and former World Boxing Council titleholder. “Put down your Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight me,” Joshua said, issuing a direct public challenge.

Paul later disclosed that he suffered a broken jaw during the fight. The American boxer declined to name a future opponent, instead announcing that he would step away from boxing for a period to recover. The defeat marked the second loss of his professional boxing career.

Despite the setback, Paul remains ranked number fourteen in the cruiserweight division by the World Boxing Association (WBA), one of boxing’s four major global sanctioning bodies. He has previously recorded wins over former world champions, including a decision victory over 39 year old Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, a former World Boxing Council middleweight champion from Mexico, earlier this year.

Paul also drew significant attention in November 2024 when he defeated 58 year old Mike Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, during a high profile bout streamed on Netflix, the United States based global streaming platform.

The outcome of the Miami fight reinforces Joshua’s standing as a leading figure in the heavyweight division, while raising fresh questions about Paul’s long term ambitions in professional boxing.
