The Magistrate Court in Apapa, Lagos, has ordered the release of 17-year-old Alabi Quadri, the teenager who gained widespread attention in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections after standing in front of the convoy of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Presiding Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi discharged the minor on Wednesday, acting on the legal advice issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which recommended that the charges against him be dropped.

Alabi’s dramatic encounter with the presidential convoy had sparked both public interest and debate at the time, leading to his eventual arrest. His release brings an end to the legal proceedings surrounding the incident.
