As the holy month of Ramadan begins, the Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, has extended a hand of support to the Muslim community by distributing grains to over 1,000 underprivileged Muslims and Islamic schools.

Speaking after the distribution, the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, emphasized that the initiative aimed to promote peace, religious tolerance, and mutual support among people of different faiths.

“For the past 19 years, we have been reaching out to poor Muslims in five northern states, ensuring they have enough food to fully participate in the 30-day fasting and prayers of Ramadan,” he shared. “This year, we have purchased 30 bags of maize and millet to distribute, and our goal is to support at least 1,000 people.”

Pastor Buru also highlighted that the church’s gesture was inspired, in part, by the kindness of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who consistently donates food, cash, and clothing to widows and orphans in the church during Christmas, New Year, and Easter.

Beyond providing food, Pastor Buru called on traders to resist the temptation of inflating food prices during Ramadan and revealed that the church had mobilized 30 volunteer pastors and imams for a week-long campaign to encourage fair pricing.

Receiving the donations, Mallam Hassan Lawal, a leader of the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities in Kaduna, expressed deep gratitude for the church’s ongoing support. Similarly, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, the leader of the Kaduna State Blind Persons Association, acknowledged the church’s longstanding commitment to helping the Muslim community during Ramadan.

In a time when economic hardships continue to strain many households, gestures like these serve as a powerful reminder that compassion and unity can transcend religious and cultural boundaries.
