Kaduna, Nigeria – A Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Ahmad Umar, has dismissed claims that he was arrested by security operatives following a recent visit by Peter Obi.
The clarification comes after Obi earlier alleged that the cleric was detained shortly after hosting him in Kaduna, describing the situation as a worrying sign of shrinking democratic space and threats to freedom of expression.
However, in a video released hours later, Umar refuted the claim, stating that he was not arrested or detained by the Department of State Services (DSS). He explained that he was only invited for questioning, cooperated fully with authorities, and was subsequently allowed to leave.
Okay News notes that the cleric assured the public that he is safe and in good condition, urging his supporters to remain calm and avoid any actions that could disrupt public order.
He also called on citizens to pursue their grievances through lawful and democratic means, emphasizing the importance of peaceful engagement and participation in the electoral process rather than resorting to unrest.
