The Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited (KRPC) is set to recommence operations by the end of 2024, according to a statement by Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil).

This announcement comes following an inspection of the Kaduna refinery’s ongoing quick-fix project on Saturday.

In a statement shared by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Lokpobiri expressed optimism about the refinery’s progress and underlined the federal government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the rehabilitation efforts to ensure the refinery’s timely restoration.

During his visit to the Kaduna refinery, Lokpobiri stated, “We will hold everyone accountable for this project to ensure its successful delivery.” He emphasized the urgency of getting the refinery back on stream, underscoring its pivotal role in enhancing the nation’s economic prosperity and energy security. These elements are fundamental to Nigeria’s sustainable development.

Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, shared Lokpobiri’s confidence in the project’s success. Kyari assured that the required equipment for the quick-fix operations is already in place and that the repair work will restore the refinery’s daily output capacity to 60,000 barrels per day.

Kyari added, “We are very confident that we will get the appropriate financing to get to the end of it, and ultimately, we will start to deliver value to Nigerians again. We plan the quick fix for 60,000 barrels per day so that we can start making money from this plant and we can continue the other part of the refinery to bring it up to its full-fledged capacity.”
