The Kaduna State Government has joined forces with Google to launch a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering 5,000 women and girls in Kaduna State, Nigeria, with skills in data science, artificial intelligence, and digital technology entrepreneurship.

This pioneering effort, which forms part of a broader skills development program supported by Google.org, seeks to equip an additional 20,000 women and young individuals across Nigeria with 21st-century skills, positioning them for opportunities in the thriving digital and creative industries.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State underscored the significance of this initiative, stating, “Inclusion in technology is not just about social equity; it’s about economic progress. By empowering our women with digital skills, we’re not only breaking gender barriers but also setting the stage for significant economic growth. This partnership with Google underscores our commitment to harnessing the vast potential of our women for the socio-economic transformation of Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.”

The Kaduna State Government has consistently championed the integration of technology to drive economic advancement. A pivotal aspect of this vision is ensuring the participation of women in the technology landscape.

Through targeted tech training and enhanced accessibility, the state aims to empower women, recognizing their potential to become significant contributors to both the digital economy and the broader socio-economic fabric.

The implementation of this program will be spearheaded by Data Science Nigeria, which will establish Arewa Tech4Ladies.

This initiative is designed to cater to four key semi-urban and rural communities within Kaduna State, providing specialized learning opportunities, mentorship, and job placement support tailored to women.

Olumide Balogun, Google Director for West Africa, expressed, “The future of tech in Nigeria hinges on tapping into the potential of every individual, irrespective of gender. Our collaboration with the Kaduna State Government is a testament to our unwavering belief in the transformative power of women in tech. Through the support of Google.org, we’re dedicated to fostering a more inclusive digital landscape, ensuring every trained woman becomes a beacon of change in the tech world.”

This collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and Google reflects their shared commitment to promoting inclusivity within the tech industry, with the ultimate goal of supporting improved economic livelihoods through participation in the digital economy in Nigeria.
