The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday ordered the immediate removal of all Kwankwasiyya inscriptions from public buildings in Kano metropolis and other local government areas of the state.

The directive followed a motion by Alhaji Baffa Babba-Dan-Agundi, member representing Kano Municipal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Education.

The motion was unanimously adopted by all the 40 members of the State Assembly.

The House urged the 44 local government councils to comply with the order within one month.

The House directed that the Kwankwasiyya inscriptions, linked to former Gov. Rabiu Kwakwanso, be replaced with the names of prominent citizens of the state.

Meanwhile, the development had heightened suspicion that the animosity between Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessor had taken a new dimension.

The House had also on Wednesday screened a commissioner nominee, Hajiya Yardada Maikano-Bichi, whose name was submitted on Monday. (NAN)
