Kano, NIGERIA – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed ₦50,000 empowerment grants to 6,680 women across the state to boost petty trading and improve family support systems.
Okay News reports that the disbursement ceremony took place at the Government House in Kano on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The event was attended by thousands of women drawn from all 44 Local Government Areas, alongside various political stakeholders.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the monthly grant is designed to stimulate the local economy through small-scale businesses. He noted that these disbursements have been a consistent feature of his administration, resulting in a significant improvement in the standard of living for less privileged women.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to the Kano State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, as well as the 44 local government council chairmen for their cooperation in reaching the beneficiaries. Speaker Falgore, in his remarks, urged the women to view the funds as a blessing and to utilize them judiciously for the intended purposes.
Other prominent figures who commended the initiative included Barr. Shehu Mohammed Bello, representing Fagge Federal Constituency; Hajiya Saadatu Yushau Soja, Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); and Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi Dala. They lauded the Governor’s focus on human capital development and its immediate impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.
