The Kano State Government has directed the closure of all accounts held by its ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in a move aimed at preventing financial misconduct and promoting transparency, Okay.ng reports.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced the decision during a meeting held at the Kano Government House on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the various accounts of MDAs would be consolidated into a single treasury account as part of his administration’s efforts to address financial irregularities observed in the state’s financial management.

“The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He further warned that any MDA failing to comply with the directive would face legal action, underscoring the administration’s commitment to enforcing the new policy.

In support of the governor’s initiative, Zayyid Abubakar, chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), introduced a revamped tax collection strategy that aligns with the newly implemented unified treasury account system.

“This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds,” Abubakar explained.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking government officials, including Shehu Sagagi, the governor’s chief of staff, senior ministers, and representatives from the banking sector.
