Kano, NIGERIA — The Kano State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Nigeria’s most populous northern state.
The confirmation, which took place during a plenary session on Monday, followed a successful screening process and the adoption of a report by an ad hoc committee led by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello.
The appointment comes as a replacement for the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who recently resigned from the position.
Okay News reports that the screening was conducted in strict adherence to Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which outlines the procedure for filling a vacancy in the office of the Deputy Governor.
During the exercise, Garo was subjected to an extensive question-and-answer session that evaluated his educational background, professional experience, and strategic vision for Nigeria’s center of commerce. The committee’s report noted that the nominee demonstrated a deep understanding of governance and presented a clear roadmap to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in executing the state’s developmental mandate.
Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore presided over the session where the House unanimously approved the nomination through a voice vote. Following the confirmation, the Assembly reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the executive arm to foster accountability and promote sustainable growth across Nigeria.
