Kano Ward Executives Suspend APC Chairman Ganduje Over Corruption Allegations

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has been suspended by members of his ward, the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Executive Council of Ganduje Ward, led by Haruna Gwanjo, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano on Monday. They cited corruption allegations regarding Ganduje’s long-standing dollar case as the reason for the suspension.

A viral video from 2017 allegedly showed Ganduje receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a contractor and stuffing them in the pockets of his gown. Despite denying the contents of the video initially, Ganduje’s innocence has been called into question.

The Kano High Court is set to arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on charges related to bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes. Ganduje is to be arraigned alongside his wife and six others.

The decision to suspend Ganduje comes amid heightened scrutiny and legal proceedings initiated by the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf. The case against Ganduje and other respondents involves presenting 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of the State High Court.

Ganduje’s suspension underscores the growing pressure on political figures to address allegations of corruption and misconduct, particularly within the APC in Kano State.
