The National Police Service Council has officially confirmed Kayode Egbetokun, the former acting Inspector General of Police, as the substantive IGP and Head of the Nigeria Police Force.

Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, made this announcement during a briefing with State House correspondents after the Council Meeting.

Geidam reiterated that the members of the Council endorsed President Tinubu’s proposal on the confirmation of Egbetokun, based on his extensive experience and exceptional performance in his acting capacity.

Egbetokun’s satisfactory discharge of duties over the past three months since his appointment on June 20 was also highlighted as a critical factor in the confirmation process.

Highlighting the IGP’s impressive records in implementing numerous police and security developmental programs, Geidam emphasized Egbetokun’s strong qualifications and dedication to the progress of the police force.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu initially appointed Egbetokun as IGP on Monday, June 19, 2023, marking a pivotal transition for the police force.

The new IGP succeeded Usman Baba, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.

Egbetokun has a commendable history in the Nigeria Police Force, having enlisted on March 3, 1990.

With his confirmation, he is set to mark 35 years of dedicated service to the nation’s security apparatus by September 2024.
