Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Government has reacted to a viral video showing a school teacher, Abduljalal Usman, criticising the quantity of Ramadan palliatives distributed to staff in Dandi Local Government Area.
Okay News reports that the teacher had claimed in the video that he received only one mudu of rice and one mudu of maize as part of palliatives distributed to workers under the Dandi Local Government Education Authority.
Responding to the controversy, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, Abdullahi Idris, said the claim was misleading.
According to the government, the grains distributed under the programme were rice and millet, not maize as alleged in the video.
The adviser also stated that the palliative allocation meant for Dandi Local Government Area had not yet arrived at the council headquarters at the time the video was recorded.
He further alleged that the teacher featured in the viral clip had been manipulated for political purposes and described him as a psychiatric patient.
The video had earlier triggered widespread debate on social media over the distribution of Ramadan palliatives in the state.
Meanwhile, the Dandi Local Government Education Authority has lifted Usman’s suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident and directed him to resume his duties.
