Kamba, Kebbi State, Nigeria – A classroom teacher in Kebbi State, Abduljalal Usman, has been reinstated following public outcry over his earlier suspension by the Dandi Local Government Education Authority.
Okay News reports that Usman was initially suspended for three months without salary after allegedly rejecting Ramadan palliative items—one mudu of maize and one mudu of millet—offered by the state government and publicly criticising what he described as poor governance.
The disciplinary action sparked criticism on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the decision as punitive and an attempt to silence dissent among public servants.
The controversy also drew attention to the administration of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, who critics noted had previously worked as a classroom teacher before entering politics.
However, in a letter dated March 4, 2026, the Education Secretary of the Dandi Local Government Education Authority announced the withdrawal of Usman’s suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
The letter directed the teacher to resume duties at his duty post while the authorities review the circumstances surrounding his actions.
Usman’s reinstatement followed widespread public reaction, with many education advocates calling for better welfare and respect for teachers across the country.
