Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is currently in a crucial meeting with heads of security agencies and chairpersons of the area councils in Abuja.

The meeting has been called in response to the recent surge in kidnappings within the FCT since December 2023.

The escalating security challenges in the nation’s capital have raised concerns, prompting Wike to direct the area council chairpersons to intensify their efforts in addressing the prevailing security issues.

The meeting aims to strategize and implement measures to curtail the rising incidents of kidnappings and ensure the safety of residents.

The FCT has witnessed a notable increase in kidnapping cases, with a particularly distressing incident occurring on January 5 when gunmen raided a community in the Bwari area council, abducting several individuals, including a family of six sisters.

The situation took a tragic turn on Sunday when the abductors, allegedly in retaliation for the family’s failure to pay a ransom of N60 million, killed one of the abducted sisters, Nabeeha.
