Lokoja, Nigeria – Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has officially handed over contract letters for the construction of the proposed Zariagi International Airport to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Nigeria Limited, marking a major step in the state’s infrastructure drive.
Okay News reports that the presentation ceremony took place at the Government House in Lokoja, where the governor described the project as a legacy initiative aimed at boosting economic growth, improving connectivity, and positioning Kogi as a key aviation hub in Nigeria.
Ododo stated that the airport would serve as a strategic alternative to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, helping to ease congestion while enhancing access for investors, tourists, and business travellers. He also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for granting necessary approvals for the project.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku, the airport will feature a 3.6-kilometre runway capable of handling large aircraft, alongside modern terminal and cargo facilities. The project, expected to span about 4,000 hectares, is projected to generate significant employment opportunities and position Kogi as a regional hub for trade, agriculture, and logistics.
