Ahead of the judgement of the Supreme court in the state’s governorship election petition on Tuesday, the police in Kogi has placed a ban on public jubilation or demonstrations.

Abdullahi Chafe, the Kogi Commissioner of Police, who announced this at a news briefing in Lokoja on Friday, stated that this ban was necessary as intelligence reports gathered by the command revealed that some hooligans had commenced plans to disrupt the peace in the state should the verdict of the apex court not go their way.

Chafe said that the police will deal with any person or group who facilitates a breakdown of law and order. “Kogi State is greater than any body. Police will not waist anytime in dealing with law breakers within the constitutional requirement.”

The Kogi police boss called on political parties to rein in their members and supporters to ensure that peace is enthroned before, during and after the verdict.
