Former Governor of Kano State in northern Nigeria, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately initiate a comprehensive national investigation into the increasing wave of violent attacks, mass kidnappings, and security breaches unfolding across several regions of the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday through his verified X account, Kwankwaso described the recent abduction of twenty-five schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga community of Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria as a tragic reminder of the deepening security failures affecting citizens. The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday when armed men on motorcycles invaded the school premises, exchanging gunfire with security operatives stationed at the facility.

Okay News reports that Kwankwaso also expressed deep concern over the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, situated in the northeastern region where Nigeria has battled insurgency for more than a decade. He referred to the officer’s death as a “dark mark” in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations and demanded a full probe into the circumstances that made the attack possible.

The former governor condemned the continuing mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, also in the northwest, describing the situation as “truly heartbreaking” while urging authorities to intensify efforts toward rescuing victims who remain in captivity. He further highlighted the persistent bandit incursions affecting Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas in Kano State, noting that these areas are increasingly becoming vulnerable to recurring attacks.

Kwankwaso commended the Kano State Government for recently donating operational vehicles to different security agencies but insisted that Nigeria must accelerate its investments in security reform at both the federal and state levels.

He stated, “These areas have seen repeated violence; in one recent incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing from Katsina State. In another raid, two nursing mothers were kidnapped from the Faruruwa community in Shanono, heightening fear among residents. These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity.”

Kwankwaso called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to reinvigorate the Armed Forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force with resources and personnel necessary to protect citizens and restore confidence in national security systems.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed on Monday that at least twenty-five students were abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga community during the attack that also claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal.
