The Kwara State Police Command has refuted claims that bandits fleeing military operations in Zamfara State have settled in Bani community, located in the Baruten Local Government Area of the state. The denial came in response to a report published by an online platform on Sunday, alleging that armed bandits had relocated to Kwara State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, dismissed the report as false and misleading. The statement emphasized that there is no evidence to support the claim and urged the public to disregard it.

The statement read: “The Kwara State Police Command has become aware of a report alleging that armed bandits escaping military operations in Zamfara State have moved to Bani town in Kwara State. The Command categorically denies this claim, which is false, misleading, and appears to be the work of mischief-makers aiming to create unnecessary panic among residents.

“There is no intelligence or operational report indicating the presence of armed bandits in Bani. The Kwara Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains highly vigilant and has strengthened surveillance across the state to prevent any security breaches.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, reassures residents that Kwara State remains safe. The police are fully prepared to address any security threats and maintain peace in the state. The public is urged to disregard such unverified reports and avoid spreading misinformation.

“For credible security information, residents are encouraged to contact the Kwara State Police Command through its official channels. In case of emergencies, the Kwara control room can be reached at 07032069501 or 08125275046.”

The police command’s swift response aims to reassure residents and dispel fears sparked by the unverified report, while also encouraging the public to rely on official sources for accurate information.
