Lagos State Government has expressed serious concerns over the use of Shoddy building materials by contractors, citing the high risks it poses to lives and investments.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency, Olayinka Abdul, emphasized the need for collaboration among construction professionals to prevent building disasters.

She called for a systematic coordination among specialists in the building industry, including architects, geologists, and civil engineers, to ensure durable structures. Abdul stressed that the lack of proper scrutiny on jobs has led to decadence in implementation, resulting in structures caving in.

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Builders, Bldr Adeoye Thomas, shared concerns about the frequent building collapses in Lagos State. However, he expressed optimism about the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency’s efforts under Abdul’s leadership.
