The Lagos State Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to initiate prosecution against Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse who administered a tetanus injection to the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, shortly before his death.

Magistrate C.A. Shotobi ruled that Ogedengbe was neither a registered nurse nor a licensed medical practitioner, rendering her actions unlawful and negligent. The injection reportedly caused complications that led to the singer’s demise.

The court also highlighted serious regulatory gaps in the healthcare sector, which permit unqualified personnel to provide medical services. “Pursuant to section 29 of the coroner laws of Lagos State, this court recommends the prosecution of the unlicensed medical personnel, Felicia Ogedengbe, by the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, for unlawful medical practice and gross negligence,” Shotobi stated.

In addition to this, the court ordered a probe into the Nigeria Police’s failure to act on a petition Mohbad filed against Naira Marley and Sam Larry before his death, raising questions about possible official negligence. The coroner further criticized the singer’s father for hastily burying Mohbad without conducting an autopsy and faulted his wife for opting to treat him at home rather than seeking professional medical care.
