Environmental-Sanitation

In order to allow for a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Lagos State government has lifted the order restricting human and vehicular movement during the September monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Permanent secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Oluwatoyin Onisarotu, who disclosed this to journalists, said the state government recognises the fact that many people may want to travel in and out of the state.

He advised Lagosians to celebrate in moderation, urging them to use the opportunity of the festive period to clean their environment and properly bag their waste to allow for easy collection and disposal in designated dumpsites by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, and PSP operators.

He urged all and sundry to join the state’s crusade of attaining a cleaner, healthier and sustainable environment, capable of promoting economic growth and wellbeing of the entire citizenry.

The permanent secretary further implored residents to desist from dumping waste indiscriminately in canals and drainages thereby blocking the drainage channels.
Onisarotu noted that since the rainy season is not yet over, there could still be cases of
flooding in the metropolis, noting that the state has been free from flooding because of the abatement measures taken by the government.
