The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, has banned pasting of political posters, banners and billboards across the state at odd hours.
In a statement made available to okay News on Monday, Mr Imohimi explained that the Command had been inundated with the complaints of indiscriminate removal/destruction of campaign posters/billboards of political parties in the state.
Buttressing Imohimi’s argument, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, said that those involved in the act usually operated at odd hours, particularly between the hours of 1a.m. and 4a.m. “If the trend is not reversed, it might lead to break down of law and order with its attendant consequences,” Oti said.
Oti added that after due consultations with relevant stakeholders, the police decided to state that pasting of campaign posters /billboards and other advertisements, should be done between 6a.m. and 7a.m. Oti added: “All political parties, candidates were told to approach the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA), for guidelines and approval of their adverts. While LASAA officials would accompany whoever that wanted to paste posters when carrying out their enforcement and compliance duty.”
