The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that full passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line will commence on October 15.
This confirmation came from Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA, in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.
The statement, signed by Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communications at LAMATA, indicated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will lead his executive council and other dignitaries in launching the passenger operations. The Governor will also join commuters on the first fare-paying trip.
According to LAMATA, train services will begin daily from Agbado at 6:00 a.m.. Akinajo explained that the train schedule had been adjusted based on data collected during previous tests, including services provided to non-paying passengers.
“Trips previously started from Oyingbo at 9:00 a.m., with the first train reaching Agbado by 10:07 a.m.,” she noted. “The new timetable prioritizes trips originating from Agbado, where many commuters reside and work in areas such as Ikeja, Oshodi, and Lagos Island.”
For passengers ending their journeys on Lagos Island, buses will be available at the Oyingbo bus terminal for onward travel.
The Red Line’s first phase, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on February 29, covers 27 kilometers and features eight stations, including Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.
