The Lagos State Government has honoured emerging culinary talents with cash prizes totalling N10 million at the Eko Flavours Food Competition, themed “A Lagos Food Story.”
Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Culinara Group, the event was held on Saturday at the Fresh Food Hub in Mushin. Ten contestants competed across four categories — sandwiches, appetisers, main courses, and desserts — showcasing innovation and skill in Nigerian cuisine.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, said the initiative was part of efforts to promote youth participation in the food value chain, from production to processing and culinary entrepreneurship.
“Most of today’s contestants are young people between 20 and 35. We see this platform as a launchpad to expand their skills and help them build sustainable food businesses,” she said.
Agabus Agboye emerged overall winner with a N5 million prize, while first and second runners-up, Rotimi Oluwadamilola and Alexander Peace, received N3 million and N2 million respectively. Other participants received consolation prizes and gifts from partners.
Olusanya added that the state was deepening its investment in food security through the Produce for Lagos initiative, designed to connect farmers with markets and ensure food affordability.
Culinara Group Co-founder, Jennifer Odufuwa, said the competition aimed to empower young chefs and prepare them for global opportunities in culinary arts.
“We’re nurturing the next generation of culinary leaders by combining creativity, entrepreneurship, and visibility,” Odufuwa stated. “This initiative gives them tools to grow beyond cooking into content creation and business management.”
