Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has fully automated its process for issuing building approvals by launching the Electronic Physical Planning Process System (EPPPS).

This new digital platform replaces all previous manual and semi-digital systems for handling construction-related permits.

The move is designed to increase efficiency, reduce delays, and improve transparency for developers and property owners. According to Okay News, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Olajide Abiodun, confirmed that all applications for planning permits must now be processed through the EPPPS platform as of April 1, 2026. Any attempt to use the old manual system is now considered illegal.

A dedicated task force has been established to ensure compliance across the state. This initiative is part of a larger government effort to digitize land administration and urban development in Nigeria’s most populous state. The government hopes the new system will help it meet its annual target of issuing up to 45,000 building permits.

Officials believe the digital-first approach will not only streamline bureaucracy but also help reduce the risks associated with unregulated construction. The government is also partnering with private sector professionals to help monitor projects and enforce standards, further improving safety and compliance.
