The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested 20 individuals during a sweeping enforcement operation targeting illicit drug peddling in Gowon Estate and Egbeda. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, focused on notorious black spots such as the 31 Road intersection, Wole Omo-Osho, Idoani Streets, and the Egbeda market area along Egbeda-Idimu Road, okaynews.com reports.

A statement from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources confirmed the dismantling of makeshift stalls at Idoani Street junction, which intelligence reports revealed were being used as safe havens for drug sales and consumption by criminal elements.

Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab commended the operation, stating, “In a swift enforcement operation yesterday, our Environmental Taskforce team dismantled makeshift structures in dark spots used for peddling illicit drugs around Gowon Estate and Egbeda. 20 suspects were arrested, and various illicit substances and cash were recovered. These criminal hideouts will no longer be tolerated in Lagos State,” he posted.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to reclaim public spaces and ensure the safety of residents, warning that all suspects will be prosecuted and urging the public to report suspicious activities.
