Lagos Tops VAT Revenue in November 2024 as States Generate N422.32bn

Nigeria’s Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue for November 2024 reached a total of N422.32 billion, with Lagos State once again leading the pack as the top contributor.

According to official figures, Lagos generated N242.63 billion, accounting for more than half of the VAT revenue for the month. Rivers State followed distantly with N78.62 billion, while Oyo State secured the third position with N32.44 billion.

In northern Nigeria, Kano State emerged as the highest VAT-generating state with N9.78 billion, ahead of states like Sokoto (N3.89 billion), Jigawa (N3.83 billion), and Borno (N3.65 billion).

Anambra State led the southeast region, generating N5.62 billion, while Bayelsa, in the Niger Delta, recorded N2.39 billion.

Other notable contributors include Akwa Ibom (N2.64 billion), Edo (N2.61 billion), and Delta (N2.53 billion). States with lower VAT collections include Kebbi (N413.85 million), Benue (N357.51 million), and Osun (N502.84 million).

Regional Overview:

  • Southwest: Lagos dominated the region, while Osun recorded the least revenue with N502.84 million.
  • Southeast: Anambra led with N5.62 billion, while Ebonyi contributed N545.36 million.
  • South-South: Rivers recorded N78.62 billion, but Cross Rivers generated N933.70 million, among the lowest in the region.
  • Northwest: Kano led with N9.78 billion, while Kebbi was at the bottom with N413.85 million.
  • Northeast: Borno generated the highest at N3.65 billion, while Gombe collected N1.16 billion.
  • North Central: Kwara topped with N2.57 billion, and Benue had the least with N357.51 million.
