Lassa Fever Case Recorded In Kwara State

The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Sulyman Alege, on Friday confirmed one case of Lassa fever in the state.

He said the case was recorded in the Babanla community of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

In a chat with newsmen, Alege said out of the five samples sent to the Virology unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, only one came back positive. That of a ten-year-old boy.

He disclosed that the state government has dispatched a team to monitor the patient and quarantine those who have come in contact with him.

The treatment and quarantine would take place in the isolation centre to be created at Omu Aran General Hospital due to its proximity to the community.

He called for calm, adding that the state government is doing all in its power to keep the people safe.
