A House of Representatives member has highlighted material differences between Nigeria’s newly gazetted tax reform laws and the versions approved by the National Assembly. Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki raised the issue as a matter of privilege.

Okay News reports that Dasuki, representing a Sokoto constituency, addressed the House on the discrepancies. He compared official records with the published laws.

Dasuki reviewed vote and proceedings from both the House and Senate. He also examined the harmonised bills passed by lawmakers.

“I took my time in the last three days to look at the gazetted pass copy, the vote and proceedings of the House of Representatives, and also went an extra mile to look at the vote and proceedings of the Senate, of what was harmonised,” Dasuki stated.

“Mr. Speaker, honourable colleagues, what I passed on this floor is not what is gazette,” he added.

The lawmaker avoided a formal motion. He framed the concern as a constitutional breach needing immediate attention.

Dasuki called for relevant documents to be presented to the Committee of the Whole. These include harmonised bills, chamber-approved versions, and gazetted copies.

He urged collective review to identify changes. Corrective measures may follow if discrepancies are confirmed.

The Speaker acknowledged the concerns. He assured members that the matter would receive proper handling.

Implementation of the tax reforms begins in January 2026. The package overhauls Nigeria’s fiscal framework and streamlines administration.

Dasuki warned that unaddressed alterations could erode legislative authority. His intervention prompts scrutiny of procedural integrity in law enactment.

This development underscores the importance of accurate gazetting to uphold democratic processes and fiscal policy reliability in Nigeria.
