Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced that Leicester City will win the Premier League this season.

Leicester, who came close to relegation last campaign, are the surprise leaders of the Premier League with the club currently five points clear of second-placed Tottenham with nine matches to play.

Ferguson lifted 13 league titles during his 26 years in charge at Old Trafford, and the Scot, who retired from management in 2013, has been impressed with Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes.

Asked whether Leicester can sustain their form and claim glory, Ferguson replied in The Sunday Times: “Of course they can. I believe they will win it with three games to spare.”

Ferguson added that he thinks Leicester midfielder N’Golo Kante has been the division’s best player “by a long way” and he also reserved praise for the club’s assistant manager and head of recruitment, Steve Walsh, describing him as “the most influential person in the Premier League.”

Leicester are next in action on Monday night when they host Newcastle United, in Rafa Benitez’s first game in charge of the struggling club following his appointment on Friday.
