In the wake of the death of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the new Governor of Ondo State.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure.

Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away after a battle with prostate cancer, according to a statement released by the state government.

Akeredolu had faced health challenges throughout his second term in office, marked by two medical vacations.

The first medical vacation commenced on April 3, 2023, and the second on July 10, 2023. Despite returning to the country on September 7, 2023, and notifying the state House of Assembly promptly, his health condition remained delicate.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who previously served as the deputy governor, has stepped into the leadership role following the constitutional provisions for such circumstances.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in the presence of key dignitaries and government officials at the Government House.
