Abeokuta, Nigeria: A Federal High Court in Ogun State sentenced 27-year-old Chukwuemeka Iheamama to 12 years in prison on May 20, 2026, for trafficking two minors.
Okay News reports that Nigeria’s National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons announced the conviction on a three-count charge of exploitation involving victims Bright Edim, 15, and Mary Ekong, 15.
The agency’s commander in Ogun State, Bose Jimoh, stated that officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrested the defendant on April 12, 2025, in the Agbara area. The arrest occurred while the defendant transported the victims toward Badagry for onward movement to Ghana for prostitution.
The concurrent sentences include a two-year prison term and a ₦250,000 ($166 USD) fine for the first count, alongside a five-year prison term and a ₦500,000 ($333 USD) fine for the second count.
“The defendant was subsequently arraigned before Hon. Justice A. A. Okeke of Court 1, FHC on 18th June 2025. Trial commenced on 15th October 2025, and judgment was delivered on 20th May 2026, wherein the Honourable Court found the Defendant guilty on all count of the Charge,” Jimoh said.
Jimoh said, “The Defendant was convicted for offences contrary to Sections 13, 15(b), and 26(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 and sentence to run concurrently as follows: Count 1: 2 years imprisonment and fine of ₦250,000.00, Count 2: 5 years imprisonment and fine of ₦500,000.00 and Count 3 which attracted 5 years imprisonment.”
