Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Jail for Importing Cocaine

A Federal High ‎in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a man, Mr. Anthony Chidi Ikeaba, to a 14 years imprisonment for importing 1.782 kg of cocaine into the country.

Delivering judgment in the case numbered, FHC/ABJ/CR/962016, Justice Okon Abang passed the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to the one count of importation of the prohibited substance.

The National Drug Laws and Enforcement had ‎arrested Ikeaba with cocaine at the Arrival Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on April 20, 2016.

The convict was arrested on his arrival from the Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

The anti-narcotic drug agency on April 26, preferred against the convict, one count of importation of cocaine, an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under section 11(a) of the NDLEA Act.

‎During the review of fact of the case by the prosecution on Thursday, Ikeadi pleaded guilty and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.

Justice Abang ruled that the sentence would take effect from ‎the date of the convict’s arrest on April 20, 2016.
