Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a transfer valued at £62.5 million ($83 million). The 26-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option to extend for an additional year, marking Ruben Amorim’s first acquisition of the summer transfer window.
A club statement read, “Manchester United has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.” Cunha was in Manchester over the weekend to finalize the move, which remains subject to visa and registration formalities.
Cunha has earned 13 caps for Brazil and was Wolves’ player of the year this season after scoring 18 goals in all competitions. Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, he has netted 33 goals in 92 appearances. United activated the release clause in Cunha’s contract to secure his transfer, a strategic move as the club aims to rebuild following a disappointing 15th-place Premier League finish and a Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
This signing is expected to inject fresh attacking impetus into a squad seeking revival under Amorim’s management.
