Manchester United Will Miss Premier League Top Four – Rooney

By Yusuf Abubakar

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has cast doubt on his former club’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Rooney expressed his skepticism following United’s 2-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Speaking on TNT Sports after the match, Rooney highlighted the inconsistency of the Red Devils as a major obstacle to their top-four aspirations.

Despite the win against Everton, United remains in sixth place in the league table, trailing behind Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Rooney emphasized that United would need to almost win every remaining game to secure a top-four finish, a feat he believes is unlikely given their inconsistency.

He pointed out that United’s defensive vulnerabilities were evident in the match against Everton, despite keeping a clean sheet.

“I don’t think Manchester United will make the top four because they have to almost win every game. I think they’re a team that are very inconsistent and I can’t see them winning every game, so I think it’s going to be very difficult,” Rooney stated.

Reflecting on United’s defensive performance, Rooney noted, “Today I think it was 20-odd chances against them, but there were no clear-cut chances for Everton. But it’s too many. There’s too many gaps, it’s too easy for teams to get opportunities against them.”
